Do you believe that the death penalty can be an effective way to deter crime?
It is possible and yes, it can and does deter crime. Capital crimes in nations where death penalty is used, and used quickly, is much lower than here. The problem is that it takes so long and is done so inconsistently in this country that is does not deter crime in this country effectively. Because of the endless appeal process, it now costs states more to execute someone than it is to give them life without parole. Executing someone 20 years after a crime is not effective. It must be done quickly to be effective. I also believe the death penalty can and should be used for criminals that are deemed unable to rehabilitate and a threat to society, like serial rapisit and pedophiles.
